Front Row S/S 2009: The Vogue Editors
The edgy: Carine Roitfeld - Paris Vogue
The conservative: Anna Wintour - US Vogue
The regular readers of this blog know that my favourite thing during New York's, Milan's Paris' and London's Fashion Weeks is to watch what the fashion editors, journalists and stylist wear at the shows. After all, it's the audience that sets the trends and not the designers!

Find the Difference: The CC Skye Enamel Cuff
Did I mention that the CC Skye bracelets are my latest obsession? The brand combines glam rock design with couture elegance, and has a cult following of celebrities such as Nicole Richie, Linsday Lohan, Ashlee Simpson and Siena Miller. So it was a matter of time till I went online to buy one...or two.....But you can imagine my surprise when after a small research I found out that there was a big price difference between various online shops. The same bracelet which was priced $259.56 at Asos.com, was on sale at Buydefinition.com and you could buy it for only $100!!! I could buy 2 in the price of 1 and...well...I did!!! So here's a friendly advice: Always, always, visit various online stores before buying the product that's high on your must-buy list, and always, always click on the "Sale" section!
Vogue Italia: Black Magic Women
According to Ian Johnston's and Photini Philippidou's article "Black is finally in fashion at Vogue" in the Independent, "It's an open secret in the fashion industry: black models rarely get jobs on catwalks, in magazines and on billboards. According to executives, they do not inspire women tospend money".
So Franca Sozzani, Vogue Italia's editor-in-chief, decided to do something about that! She declared that the magazine's July issue will have a black-models-only theme in an attempt to fight racial prejudice in art and fashion. "This idea came about as a reaction to the models of today,'' Sozzani said. "I go to a fashion show and every girl is blond and blue-eyed and they all walk the same and look the same. There are so many beautiful black women not being used." But international politics was also a big influence. Sozzani said the time seemed right for an all-black issue now that Barack Obama will soon become the first black nominee for president of the United States. I'm sure that another Vogue editor-in-chief will be kicking herself for not thinking it first....

Fringe is In!
Fringes are so in right now that the Realhair hair salon in London has opened up a new bar which not only offers you a cool drink, but also fixes your fringes! Fringes, nevertheless, look good not only as part of your hairstyle, but also as part of your summer wardrobe! Pick a dress, a t-shirt, a bag, or a pair of shoes and show off your bohemian spirit!
Sex and the City Movie: The Belt
If you thought that Manolos were THE Sex-and-the-City accessory...think again! Manolos may have finally found their competitor in Carrie's vintage, studded, black belt! Yes, this belt was a must-have for the movie's leading lady, since it made her girly outfits look more tough and edgy, it added more style to simple dresses and looked great with almost everything! But if you fear that like the rest of the accessories in the movie, this belt is super expensive and extremely hard to find, you 're wrong! The movie's stylist, Patricia Field, now offers an exact replica online, on her site, at a pretty tempting price ($120)! Friendly advice: pre-order it now before it's too late!!!
PS: I've already ordered mine... -)

Where Criticism is Not Acceptable: The Armani Show
Let's assume you design clothes. Which you want to sell. So you have a show. You know, in order to invite prospective buyers. Oh yes, and you want to gain publicity as well. So you invite journalists too. Now if your designs are good, you'll get good reviews. If your designs are bad, you'll probably get bad reviews. Unless of course you pull a Giorgio Armani, which means you don't invite - or you uninvite - good journalists, journalists with integrity, like New York Times' Kathy Horyn who will write the truth no matter what your collections look like...More about it here!

Versace Loves Hermes?
The new Versace Fall 2008 collection surprised me for two reasons: first, it was a good one (!) and second, it featured accessories (belts) from another fashion house, Hermes! It's probably not the first time a fashion house uses accessories of a different brand, but it must be one of those rare times when a fashion house like Versace which produces its own accessories, presents products that feauture another fashion house's very, very recognizable logo!
Cheap and Chic No16: Jonathan Saunders
A pretty good replica of a Jonathan Saunders Fall 2007 dress is out right now in Topshop, and it is designed by Jonathan Saunders himself! As for it's price? Pretty tempting...
Carine Roitfeld: Revealed
Those of you who are regular readers of this blog, must know that I love Carine Roitfeld's sense of style: sexy yet chic, provocative but not vulgar, in-fashion but not a fashion victim. Yet, I had never really realized that apart from stylish, Paris Vogue's editor-in-chief is also...well...quite shallow...At least this is how she appears in New York magazine's article "The Anti-Anna"... Read the excerpts and the article and judge for youreselves. I will be waiting for your comments!
All she ever wanted was to be surrounded by very attractive people and very expensive clothes. It’s always been “fashion, fashion, fashion”—so much so that she lists beauty and jewelry as evidence that the job as editor-in-chief has expanded her range of interests.
“I do not like comfortable,” Roitfeld says. She has outlawed sneakers and what she calls “Hugg boots” in her office because “they are hugly.”
“One thing,” she says. “I have in my office—what you call in America? Something to weigh?” A scale? “A scale. So people always say that I weigh my staff, and it is totally wrong. All my girls are very skinny and very chic and very beautiful. And if they are not beautiful, well, then they are very charming. So people always say that I weigh them, but no. I don’t weigh my girls."
“Doesn’t she look like Nicole Kidman?” Roitfeld says of the assistant posted at her door. “I told you, all the girl who work at French Vogue are vewy skinny and beautiful.”

Wintour and Roitfeld: Friends or Foes?

Who is the most stylish Vogue Editor-in-chief? at Style.com Forum
There has been some action at Style.com's forum: I posted a thread on who is the most stylish Vogue editor in chief, and I have to say that Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld are pretty close! So why don't you vote on the poll-column on the right of the blog, and then post a comment on the forum? Would love to read what YOU think!
What is more Dangerous than Walking on a Tightrope?
It's walking on the street with these shoes!!! Louise was brave enough to wear them during the hectic Milan fashion week in order to write an article about "crazy" shoes and the Sartorialist was there with his camera to capture her! And if you are wondering how she walks in high-heeled-shoes-without-hills when you somehow manage to stumble even when wearing flats, you'll be glad to know that Louise admitted it takes "full concentration to keep from tipping over" as she carefully went in and out of the shows...
That Prada Spring 2008 Dress...
You know how it is...You find a dress you love - love - LOVE, you manage to save the money to buy it and then you wear it ALL the time!!! In fact, if you can afford it, you buy it in all the available colours! This is exactly what happened to Anna Wintour, who fell for that blue and red printed Prada dress, bought it also in red and beige, and wore it during the Pre-Fall and Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear shows! We sympathise...

Central St Martin's Fall 2008 Fashion Show: What's Wrong with Wearable Clothes?
Looking for the next big thing in fashion? All you have to do is attend London's Central Saint Martin's Graduate Show. It's the only Graduate Show on London's Fashion Week schedule, and it's the place where you will discover young, talented designers who dare to experiment with new materials, new forms and unusual colour combinations while waiting for their big break. So was this the deal for this year's show? Not really, according to Style.com's runway review, which describe the show as "a quiet one". Sarah Mower found that apart from a couple of designers, "on the whole an unusually subdued and polite cohort passed out of Central Saint Martins this year, a group more focused on making wearable clothes in beige, black, and white than rocking the house. Is that a sign of the times?" she wondered... I, on the other hand, found this year's collection one of the best so far. The designs were edgy enough but also wearable (really, what's wrong with wearable???), and four designers - Mary Katrantzou, Simone Shailes, Joanna Vanderpuije and Natasha Stolle - caught my attention. All of them designed clothes that common people like you and me could probably wear and that would make us stand out from the crowd - in a good way! Why is that such a bad thing? So are these girls going to rock any fashion house? I pretty sure they will. Katrantzou's giant digital prints on bonded jersey dresses in the shape of necklaces, Shailes' rich and chic knits, Vanderpuije's beige and black designs and Stolle's combination of grey flannel and leather, will probably put their names on many fashion magazines and will urge fashion houses to invite them to their team! Even if they make clothes that common women can actually wear...
New Poll Out: The Most Stylish Vogue Editor in Chief
After a long time, Ostentatious Style publishes its brand new, second poll, with a pretty difficult question...Since there are so many editions of the Fashion Bible a.k.a Vogue, and therefore so many fashion-conscious editors, it is time to find out who really deserves her job; that is, who is the chicest and most stylish editor-in-chief! And it's up to you to decide! I have narrowed the number of editors down to four - the editors of the most popular and highly respected Vogue editions, the American, the British, the French and the Italian one - and all you have to do is to pick your favourite one! Will it be the-American-devil-in-Prada Anna Wintour, the wild Parisian Carine Roitfled, the elegant Italian Franca Sozzani or the discreet British Alexandra Shulman? Let the bloodbath begin!!!
